Patient Stories : Isata

Isata

After being rejected by multiple hospitals because of her disability, twenty-three year old Isata came to the Aberdeen Women’s Centre (AWC) for antenatal healthcare.

Isata has been unable to use both of her legs since birth and tested positive for the malaria parasite while at AWC. Because malaria could threaten the life of her unborn child, Isata was admitted to the hospital for three days to undergo treatment. Months later Isata delivered a beautiful baby girl. Isata was given a wheel chair from AWC to go home with and is extremely grateful for the care and hospitality the hospital showed her.

"Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well, you are needed by someone."
